Treasuring the Earth Event

Have you taken some time to study the wood carvings that Bob Wiley has created? They are truly remarkable! He has been carving cedar replicas of Haida and Tlingit art for over 50 years.

Here’s what he says about his work: “I got interested in Northwest Coast Indian art during frequent visits to Seattle in the early 1960s, which intensified after moving here in the mid-1960s. I had a good cedar fence post, some gouges (curved bladed chisels), sharp knives and started carving. I did a mask with movable parts, then plaques, trays, spoons, model poles, canoes, paddles, and bend corner boxes. By the mid-80s I was ready to try a totem pole, and was fortunate in finding a log, and then a second one a year later, and carved 12’ and 10’poles. On losing my workshop by moving, I continued carving small items in the kitchen and then gig saw carving on flat pressed board in the Covenant Shores workshop.”

NO Children's/Costume Jewelry

We are surrounded by electronics that constantly need to be powered up. It's easy to accumulate chargers and cords that don't have a home. Ridwell is collecting power cords, chargers, and connectors to help tidy up your homes! Bring to CCMI before: Feburary 25th

Prison Ministry THANK YOU EVERYONE! We have collected over 350 calendars. Continue to bring any calendars that you are not using to CCMI.

We often hear that CCMI's Reader Board is an effective way to communicate with our Mercer Island neighbors. That's why the Climate Action Team is using the North facing side of the Reader Board to post weekly ideas to reduce our carbon footprint. We are using many ideas from REI's initiative, the Opt to Act Plan which provides ample challenges to get active, reduce our impact on the environment, and leave the world a better place. Check out REI's website for information.
