The Bridge- October Edition https://www.ucc-ccmi.org/single-post/2019/10/08/Bridge--October-Edition

Hosted by: Congregational Church on Mercer Island. Led by Earth Ministry board members Rev. Marilyn Cornwell and Rev. Terry Teigen, and Earth Ministry member Dr. Francie Rutherford, our discussion will offer a process for navigating what the future holds. We’ll begin the work of equipping ourselves by naming our grief, seeing with new eyes, and taking steps to embody the active hope Macy and Johnstone envision. Please join us!

Communications Team Meeting Sunday, October 27 11:45 a.m.

Meatless Recipes, please! In an effort to reduce our carbon footprint by eating less meat, we are assembling meatless recipes. We’ve received several recipes from our 50th Anniversary Party, and are hoping to add other recipes you wish to share. We’ll publish this electronically, and then be able to add to it easily when we’re ready to add other courses (like salads and desserts). Right now we’re focusing on meat alternative recipes. Please send recipes to the church office office@ucc-ccmi.org. Thanks for your help - it will be fun to see how creative we are in the kitchen!

Alaska Suite A story of beauty, loss and hope Saturday November 2 7:30 p.m. The Alaska Suite features a five-piece chamber jazz ensemble performing the original music of Seattle pianist and composer Nelda Swiggett. But this is not just a concert. The performance engages the power of artistic expression — live music, spoken words, images and poetry — to connect audiences deeply and emotionally to the scientific realities of climate change. Ultimately a story of hope, the performance leaves audiences inspired to take action.

Sock It to Homelessness Sock Drive: Social Outreach and our friends at Operation Nightwatch need your help! Until November 24, we're collecting men's new white sport socks in the box near the church entrance. Last year we donated a record 3522 pairs; we'll beat that this year! No worn or colored socks please, new white athletic socks only. If you want to help with the large order we will place with a sock factory in Alabama at $8.00 per dozen, you can write a check to CCMI and put "Socks" on the memo line. Or, donate online on the CCMI website. Contact Terry Pepple
