Congregation Lunch is now scheduled for Mar 7. Everyone is invited to stay for the annual Chinese New Year lunch after next Sunday's service. The Fungs will be catering this affair with guest chefs Jeannette Englebrecht and Whitney Hines. Start the Year of the Tiger with a roar!
High School Youth Group meets at the church starting at 6:00 pm on Sun. Tim's mom will be bringing dinner. We'll be eating at the church and watching a movie. All High School students are welcome. Supervised by Jessica Howard.
Committees meet Mon at the church starting at 7:30 pm. If your committee meets, you should be there, otherwise you may find yourself in charge of a few things!
Tue Bible Study meets Tuesdays from 1:30 to 2:30 pm in the Library. This week, they’ll continue covering Romans chapter 4. Paul continues with the circumcision thing as he talks about Abraham and wonders if uncircumcised people (that is, non-Jews) are also blessed by God. Show up Tue and Pastor Mark will explain what Paul is going on about.
Elementary School Youth Group–yes, we have one! It’s for kids in 3rd to 5th grade and meets from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm on Wed and is led by Jessica. They’re starting a Lenten series, where the kids learn about what Lent is, and cover the bible story of Jesus in the wilderness, which leads right into resisting temptation. This program will last through Easter, and will feature games as well as Easter-themed crafts. This week, the kids will be making Easter Cards for residents of Covenant Shores. No reservations necessary.
Middle School Youth Group will be meeting on Wed, starting at 6:30 pm. This bustling group has 26 members and is open to any youth in middle school. This week, This week, they’ll be discussing absent parents. If you’d like to lend a hand, contact Jessica Howard (425-239-4186).
Wed night Bible Study Group meets at 7:45 pm in the Library. All are welcome to attend.
Thu night Bible Study Group meets starting at 6:30 pm in the Upper Room. If you’re interested in Bible study, check out this group. All are welcome.
Voice Lessons: Do airports complain that you’re disturbing them when you sing? Here’s a good way to get back to warbling royalty free: voice lessons. Each Thu from 7:00 to 7:30 pm, our Music Director, Erich Parce, holds group voice lessons dealing with the basics of singing. Watch the Voice Lessons Video!
Choir rehearsal starts at Thu at 7:30 pm. If those voice lessons have you eager to take-off and fly right, talk to Erich about joining our choir.
Men’s Breakfast will be this Sat, Mar 13, starting at 7:30 am. Lots of healthy fellowship and food will happen. All men are welcome. This will not be followed by a work party because there will be an all-church work party the next day.
Lenten Reflections is a quiet service that Pastor Mark will conduct each Sun morning during Lent starting at 8:45 am and lasting for about half an hour. The service will be a Taizé style service. If you’ve never been to a Taizé service, check it out. Very quietly spiritual.
Daylight Savings Time! Next week! Yes, it’s a whole week away. Church, however, is when you will first notice that it’s an hour earlier than you expected! Yikes! Next Saturday, you’ll be setting your clocks ahead an hour, which means that your body will think it’s showing up at church at 9:30 am (but your brain will insist it’s 10:30 am). Everyone in favor of just choosing one time and sticking to it, grumble loudly.
Grubby Sunday / Work Party is also next Sunday, Mar 14 after the service. You know what’s a great way to get your body accustomed to a new time zone? Physical activity! So wear your work clothes to church and stay after to whack some weeds and help clean up the church grounds. If you have garden tools, bring them, especially if you have one of those things that sets weeds on fire!
Catered Work Party! If you stay next week to clean up the church grounds, Fellowship will also make sure that you are properly fueled for your work. Cheryl Malcham promises “hot dogs, potato salad, and baked beans, etc.” (we’re not sure about that “etc.” but maybe she means refried beans, beenie wienies, and bean salad).
Confirmation Classes will begin in May. We’re conducting confirmation classes in cooperation with Bellevue First Congregational Church. The classes will meet once a month for the next year, with a confirmation ceremony in May of 2011. Open to students ages 13 to 18 and the deadline for sign-up is Apr 4 (Easter). To sign-up and for more information, contact Pastor Mark (206-902-8542).
Art Opening! Award winning artist Dorothy Drum (over 200 awards) will have an art exhibit on these very walls during March and April. You (and your friends) are invited to the Opening on Fri, Mar 19 from 6 pm to 9 pm. It’s your basic art opening: food, wine, fabulous art work, h’ordeuvres, discerning clientele, puu puus, art talk and munchies.
Congregational Seder hosted by Jim and Barb Miller is happening on Mon, Mar 29, starting at 6:00 pm. Help celebrate the Israelites flight to freedom from slavery. Features 4,000 year-old rituals. (The Last Supper was a Seder dinner.)
Easter Candy It’s that time again! Easter Egg candy (candy small enough to fit into an Easter egg, so no full-size Snickers™ bars, please) donations are needed for our annual Easter Egg hunt on April 4th after the service. Please leave donations by Jessica’s office door. Tip: put them in a bag marked “carrots” so Robert won’t touch them.
