The bright blue bags make a wonderful gift for family and friends as well as for your own enjoyment. Loosely translated – Beneficio means for the benefit of all. Beneficio Coffee buys coffee beans from small family farmers in Costa Rica and then gives back 20% of the net proceeds from each bag purchased to those farmers and their communities for improvements to their farms, schools, medical services, and quality of life. The company then gives back an additional 10% of the net proceeds to their customers' organizations for community outreach and other giving opportunities. In most coffee-producing countries, small family farmers receive, on average, between 15 to 25 cents for each pound of coffee they grow. Beneficio Coffee pays the farmers fair market value for their coffee beans and then gives back 20% of the net proceeds from each bag purchased for farm and community development to create sustainability for their farms, further develop their communities, enhance education and health services, and generally improve their quality of life. Top Men's Spiritual Group at CCMI Some of the men in our little Body of Christ are meeting in the mornings, the first Friday of each month at 7:00AM for 45 minutes or so, over coffee and doughnuts in the church library, to share with one another and Father Sam how our respective relationships with God manifest themselves in our lives. Our intention is to raise awareness among all the men of CCMI that this group is meeting, that all are welcome, and that it is a safe place to share about personal issues and topics with like-minded men. This group meets in addition to the 2nd Saturday men's breakfast group, which continues to thrive. If you have any questions, feel free to ask Ed Lambert, John Rose, Dave Davis or Father Sam. Top Mens Breakfast The next Men's Breakfast is the second Saturday of each month at 7:30 AM.The men are great cooks. Come join them. This is generally followed by a cleanup at 9:00 AM, with participation by anyone who wishes to and can help. Top Adopt a Highway News Highway cleanup is the first Saturday of each month. Be at the church at 8:00 AM sharp for ride sharing. As of December 2, 2006, we have adopted our stretch of highway, exit 9 to Bellevue, for one year!! Many thanks to all those who have helped with this project. There are 20 people who have helped with this project one or more times. Even the public notices! Many people have commented on how nice it is to not see trash along the off ramp, even calling the church to compliment us on a job well done. There is a very nice thank you on the bulletin board from someone from the DOT. Here is a quote from her note "A huge 'thank you' to the Congregational Church of Mercer Island for adopting the Bellevue Way Exit from eastbound Interstate 90 for trash pick-up. This is a wonderful volunteer effort that will be appreciated by all who use that section of road. "Good Work!! Remember the day is always the first Saturday of the month.
